How I got There: My Go-to Summer Get Up.

I love to come up with an outfit that I can wear over and over throughout the season.  I'm soooo french that way.  But seriously, the outfit that I got loads of milage out of this summer was my Stella McCartney fruit skirt and a chambray shirt.  I wore it to a friends rehearsal dinner, countless dinners out and even to work.  It was the two images below( from Jak &Jill and Vogue.com) that inspired me rock this look and all though the picture of me below is not the best, you get the idea.  The shirt is from JCrew and the shoes I'm wearing are Loeffler Randall that I got at a sample sale, bringing the final cost of my go-to look down considerably.  Which is important since I'm not a Rockefeller.

Chiffon Happens: What I Learned During Hurricane Irene.

As cranky Irene was knocking on our doors this weekend I learned a valuable lesson.  Nothing is as bad as it seems.  Unless of course there's construction happening on the only bathroom in your apartment and your about to be faced with a 72 hour lock-in sans toilet.  Imagine all that time cooped up drinking away hours and having no bathroom!  Quelle nightmare!  In the end, the toilet was installed just in time. A big round of applause to the contractors working on our apartment.  Even though the problem was their fault to begin with- but let's not get into that.   Let's look at these pictures of me in a chiffon skirt and toast the end of Irene!

Chiffon Happens.  Chiffon skirt La Fou for Aritzia, socks Falke, shoes A.P.C.

Only one more week of construction!

Ready or Not, Navajo We Come!

I was a little iffy about all this navajo business when I first saw it on Isabel Marant's FW11 runway, now however I'm enjoying this new brand of "tribal" (for lack of better word) prints.  See for yourself and get inspired.

Sandro Navajo Tee from Net-a-Porter.

PS 1 in Navajo!

The Two Accessories I Would Make Friendship Bracelets For.

Packing away your seasonal goods is like saying goodbye to your friends at the end of camp.  Or is that just me?  If these two accessories had yearbooks I would be signing them "Don't ever change! See you next Summer!".

The bag is a little vintage Gucci thing I scored from my Mom's closet.  It really must be old because there's not a logo to be seen on it and I can hardly remember a time before Gucci plastered those little G's all over everything.

The shoes are Pierre Hardy that I got in Paris this past Spring.  I never saw them stateside which made me super super happy, as you can imagine.  They looked great with socks this spring and with bare legs this summer.  I'll be sorry to say goodbye to them as the weather changes, but just think what a happy little reunion we'll have come Spring/Summer 2012!

An Ode to the Isabel Marant Dicker Boots

What is it about these little suede booties that make them harder to get then a Birkin bag?  Perhaps it's the perfection of the 2.5 inch heel height that says "I'm so chic, I don't need heels to prove it." or the fact that they make ANY ankle look skinny.  When I worked at the Isabel Marant store I sold Kate Bosworth her first pair and from then on you hardly ever see her, or her feet, photographed without them.  This may be why I'm told the Soho shop now has a SIX page waiting list for these little guys.  Because no matter how many Jeffery Campbells or Steve Maddens knock them off they just can't compare to the real thing.   If you hurry, I saw some at Creatures of Comfort NYC the other day. But hurry they only have about twelve pairs left.  They also have the new style, the Dixie boot, which I might be going for myself.  Just to mix it up a bit.

Dicker Boots.

Dixie Boot. Available on LaGarconne for pre-sale.

Love for Your Lashes: Blinc Mascara.

It's been awhile since I've mentioned a beauty product and that's because it's been awhile since one has made enough of an impact on my beauty routine.  Blinc Mascara has certainly done just that.  This sleek little tube made it's first impression on me when I read an interview with Shirley Cook on Into the Gloss and it sounded just to cool not to try it for myself.  The thing that makes it so special is the formula hardens around each individual lash to make a tube.  There's no flaking, no smudging which makes it great for girls with contacts, like moi! When it's time to wash it off- warm water loosens each tube so they just slide off your lashes! No more raccoon mascara eyes, oh how I wish I had this stuff when I was in college.

Available at Sephora.

Sweatpants: Not Just for the Gym.

One thing I really love is something I like to call dressy sweatpants.  I know what you're going to say, that sounds like an oxymoron and it is but that's what's so great about them.  Pair them with a chic little jacket and a pair of great shoes with a small heel and you can rock sweat pants all day long!  I seen many a chic french woman doing just this.
I like these Vince pants from Shopbop. They have just enough tailoring to accomplish the effortless look I'm describing.

Valentino Corset-y Boots.

I love that these Valentino boots lace up in the back like a corset and that's no satin ribbon you see back there.  It leather! A leather bow, fantastic!  Don't you agree?

Front.  Is that a ribbon back there?

Nope!  It's a piece of leather, fooled ya!

Prep-tastic: What I'd Wear if I was Going Back to School.

It's almost time for those crazy kids to head back to school and doesn't that make you feel just the tiniest bit nostalgic? Remember when planning your first-day-of-school outfit was something you thought about all August long?  Not much has changed for me, I still plan my outfits way to long in advance (and then change my mind fifty times) and if I was heading back to school next month this is what I wish I was wearing.

I did just order the Kirsten necklace from the Man Repeller/DANNIJO collection in celebration.  I'm not sure what I'm celebrating, but let's call it "Not Having to Go Back to School."

Mui Mui Makes a Fine Feathered Friend.

I love this Mui Mui feathered collar.  I would wear it with a black pencil skirt and a white collared shirt.  Think holiday.  I would love to wear this to my family Christmas party,  my mother-in-law would love it.  She's often very entertained by what I wear and knowing this is a big responsibility.  When I'm going to see her I often dress with her in mind, and try and pull out all the stops.  This piece would really wow her, don't you think?

Available on Net-a-Porter.

Hot on These Collars.

One thing I'm really enjoying right now is a chic button down shirt with a contrasting collar.  These skirts mean business but still like to party.

Look at the sequins!  I want to wear these with black cigarette pants and maybe some tap shoes! Kidding, maybe those Margiela brogues from my previous post. Available on Net-a-Porter.

This Christopher Kane shirt has a PVC collar with squishy gel inside! Have you ever seen such a thing? It reminds me of pool toys I had when I was a kid and that makes me want it so much more for some reason.  $985 on Net-a-porter.

And if sequins and PVC aren't your thing, you could try this lovely Equipment shirt that gets the job done just fine.  Also from Net-a-Porter.

Oh My Ombre!

Do you like patent leather? Do you like suede?  Can't choose just one? Well, now you don't have to! The smart and fancy people who bring us Theyskens' Theory and Maison Martin Margiela took these two leather delights and said "Hey, lets put them both on one shoe!".  I'm pretty sure that's how the conversation went.
I'm captivated by the spread of ombre into our lives.  What other recent trend has spread from clothing to hair and now to foot wear?!  These shoes are one more way you can show the world how much you enjoy the gradation of one color/fabric/hair tone to another.

Margiela brogues available on Lagarconne.

Theskyns Theory platforms available on Net-a-Porter.

Chopped and Cropped.

No matter what every September when I pack away my spring pieces and begin planning what I'll be wearing for fall I always say "I need more pants!".  Okay maybe I yell it, I'm prone to exaggerations.
This year I'm enjoying a cropped pant with a cuff.  I'll pair them with socks and heels, oh yes I will.  Or maybe a loafer or boot.

Band of Outsiders. Available on LaGarconne.

Hope. Also on Lagarconne.

Elizabeth and James. Available on Net-a-Porter.

MM6 x Opening Ceremony On Sale Now!

MM6 just launched they're very first collaborative effort with who else, but Opening Ceremony.  When the pieces were first hit the Barney's website they sold out instantly and I'm sure the same will happen now that the cheeky, convertible pieces are up on the OC site. I really enjoy the piece below. It's a shirt, it's a dress and back again. Take a look here to see the many ways to wear it.

Isn't that just so clever?

Peacock Escapes from Central Park to Shop FW11!

I love that a peacock got loose from Central Park yesterday. It seems like the beginning of a delightful children's book. I imagine she just wanted to do a little fall shopping on the UES. In honor of this great escape I've selected a few items I thought she might like. Unless, she's over the whole feather trend...

Rag and Bone.

SS11: The Photo Made Me Do It!

Every season without fail I see a beautiful image that makes my pulse race. I then become desperate to accuire the items I've seen in these beautiful photos and cannot stop until I make them mine. My panties are still in a twist over the Celine bag Harley carried below at Coachella.
Photo from Harpers Bazaar.

I did however, purchase the Stella citrus skirt and tried to convince my friend to get the Prada bananas so we could recreate the image below. That's how nuts I went over this photo from Jak & Jill.

I can't wait to see what images while force me to empty my wallet for FW11.

I'm Not a Princess, I Just Shop a Lot.

Yeah, I play with Instagram sometimes. I also play with necklaces. Please note the Jewish star that dots the I in princess. This necklace was my mom's and it's kind of my gay pride flag for my Jewish-ness. I say it loud and proud.

The One that Got Away: Summer 2011

You know when you kick yourself for not buying something and it haunts your dreams for weeks? Well, this Prada tshirt will be sorely missed from my closet for years to come. The combination of the joyful (doesn't she look like she's having fun?) Chiquita banana lady and the rich neon embroidery screams "I'm making mojitos for my friends at the most fun BBQ ever!". I feel I could never be unhappy if I was wearing this tshirt. The real kicker is I saw it on sale too. I know, I know. But it hurts me more than it hurts you.

Can I Get Married Again So I Can Wear These Shoes?

It's so unfair that happily married people only get to have one wedding! I know, I could renew my vows or whatever but when has that ever not been super lame? Well, if there was a way I could have another wedding without getting divorced or doing an icky vow renewal I would wear these Valentino shoes. Don't you feel so much better knowing this about me? I know I do for sharing it.

These beauties can be found on Net-a-porter for $1,250.

This Necklace is Not for Joggers.

My default outfit is a white tshirt and jeans. If I want to make life a little bit more interesting I add a bad ass necklace that demands on-lookers to ask questions like "Is that heavy?". To which I like to answer "well I wouldn't wear it running, but it's not so bad."
This necklace by those snazzy ladies at DANNIJO would really slow down the security line at JFk, but you'll look great doing it!

Available on Shopbop.com for $876.00
